Musculoskeletal disorders in call center workers: a look at prevalence and risk factors.Durango Petro Jorge Francisco; Díaz Parodi Johanna Lucía; Yesica Yibet Mendoza Parada; Diana Derly Bueno CastroMusculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are one of the main occupational health problems in activities that involve prolonged exposure to computer equipment and performing repetitive tasks, specifically in sectors such as call centers, which have shown considerable growth within the outsourced services industry, creating job opportunities, but at the same time generating working conditions associated with ergonomic risks; although this type of work is usually considered low physical risk, remaining in static postures, repetitive movements of hands and wrists, forced positions of the neck and shoulders, and organizational demands, such as high work pace and limited breaks, can favor the appearance of MSDs. therefore, the present monograph aims to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and the risk factors associated with their occurrence in call center workers, through the synthesis and chronological organization of the available evidence, seeking an integration of dispersed information in the sector; the results showed that the most common MSDs are cervical pain and low back pain, mainly affecting the neck and back, finding a high prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms in this population. On the other hand, regarding risk factors, the influence of ergonomic, organizational, and psychosocial conditions was identified, highlighting the multifactorial nature of these disorders in the work environment. Keyword: Musculoskeletal disorders, ergonomics, risk factors, call center, prevalence.Item Inclusión laboral y discapacidad una revisión de la literatura científica en los últimos 10 añosOspina Andrea Brigith; Bueno Catro DianaThis monograph analyzed scientific production on labor inclusion and disability over the last ten years, identifying approaches, inclusion levels, disability types, and economic sectors addressed in academic literature.Item Accidentalidad durante el izaje de cargas en el sector de la construcción. Una mirada mundial de los últimos 10 años Accidents during lifting operations in the construction sector: a global overview of the last 10 years.Rosas Tovar Maria Fernanda; Diana Derly Bueno CastroThe study analyzes the high rate of accidents in the construction sector, particularly in lifting operations, where the use of equipment, the handling of heavy materials, and the interaction among workers increase risks if not properly managed. Based on a review of scientific literature from the past ten years, it was found that the most common accidents include falling loads, impacts from moving objects, entrapments, and equipment collapse, all resulting from a combination of human, technical, organizational, and environmental factors. These incidents not only cause serious or fatal injuries but also lead to economic losses, project delays, and legal issues. In conclusion, the most effective prevention strategies rely on a comprehensive approach that includes proper equipment maintenance, personnel training, careful planning, constant supervision, and the use of technology, recognizing that safety depends on the integration of all these elements. Although the body of research addressing this issue remains limited, the integrated analysis of environmental, individual, ergonomic, and psychosocial factors provides a comprehensive framework for understanding a problem that must be incorporated into occupational health and safety programs. Prolonged exposure to screens and technological devices places workers at risk of developing a constellation of symptoms that may culminate in Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Visual therapy programs have proven to be effective interventions for disorders of the visual accommodation system. The methodology employed in this study was based on a systematic literature review across multiple academic databases, including PubMed, Scielo, and Dialnet, as well as peer-reviewed articles and scientific journals. The inclusion criteria encompassed studies focusing on adult workers who use digital screens, particularly call center employees in Latin America between 2015 and 2025, who exhibited alterations in the visual accommodation system and were diagnosed with accommodation disorders through the CVSS-15 questionnaire or optometric evaluation. Ultimately, visual disorders associated with digital screen use must be diagnosed and treated promptly, employing strategies that ensure favorable long-term outcomes. Scheduled optometric examinations are indispensable for preventing the onset of symptoms related to CVS and other visual system impairments.Item Propuesta de intervención Riesgo químico en fumigadores del sector agrícola. El caso de una empresa de Santa Sofía (Boyacá)Salvaneschi-Ragazzone, Camila; Bueno, Diana DerlyA 2020 OIT study estimated that 27.4% of the global population works in the agricultural sector, which is considered one of the most hazardous industries. Illnesses and accidents resulting from the handling of agrochemicals in agriculture remain among the least addressed issues in rural areas. The workers with the highest exposure to chemical risks are those who mix and apply these products on crops to control pests and diseases. The analysis carried out made it possible to identify that the existing hazards can cause serious health consequences. When assessing the danger of each substance, risks such as infertility, cancer, allergies, and other effects related to inhalation, skin absorption, and cross-contamination were identified. During the document review and direct field observations, significant shortcomings were found, particularly in the proper use of personal protective equipment, the lack of training for handling agrochemicals, and the limited reading of safety data sheets. These documents provide essential information on each product’s risks and the protective measures required to prevent poisoning and other adverse health effects.Item Desempleo y precariedad laboral en Ibaroamérica y sus consecuencias para la salud mental - Unemployment and Labor Precariousness in Ibero-America and Their Consequences for Mental HealthPinzón Ramírez Luz NancyPsychological well-being depends on having stable work that provides income, identity, life satisfaction, and social recognition. Unemployment or job insecurity can cause emotional suffering and mental disorders.Item Análisis de la cultura organizacional y liderazgo de los sistemas de gestión de salud y seguridad en empresas pequeñas. Una revisión de los últimos 10 años en LatinoaméricaQuintero-Sambony, Adriana Marcela; Martínez-Rincón, Mabel Lizeth; Guerrero-Cordero, Raymundo Nicolás ; Bueno-Castro, Diana DerlyThis research aimed to analyze organizational culture and leadership in occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS) in small Latin American enterprises over the last 10 years (2016–2026). The study was conducted using a qualitative, descriptive approach, based on a documentary review of indexed journal articles and other academic sources on safety culture, leadership and management systems in SMEs. A documentary analysis matrix was developed with 25 selected articles that met the inclusion criteria defined for the research, in which levels of organizational culture, leadership styles and organizational characteristics related to preventive management were identified. The results show that, in Latin American SMEs, reactive and calculative safety cultures predominate, with specific advances toward proactive and generative levels when top management assumes safety as a strategic value. It is also highlighted that transformational and participative leadership styles contribute to preventive commitment, mutual care among workers, and the consolidation of more sustainable management systems, in contrast to authoritarian, transactional, or delegative styles. In conclusion, strengthening the linkage between organizational culture, leadership and OHSMS is necessary to transform preventive culture and respond to the needs of small Latin American enterprises beyond mere legal compliance. It proposes a workplace exercise program to improve mobility, prevent progression, and promote well-being.Item Propuesta de programa de gestión en EPP para los trabajadores de cargue y descargue del sector comercial de granos de la empresa MERKA-UNIÓN, Corabastos, 2026.Proposal for an EPP management program for loading and unloading workers in the grain commercial sector of the company MERKA-UNIÓN, Corabastos, 2026.Garay-Castro, Claudia Marina; Bueno-Castro, Diana DerlyThe intervention proposal being taught develops a PPE management program for the loading and unloading workers in the grain commercial sector of the company MERKA-UNIÓN, located in the Bogotá Wholesale Market (Corabastos), during the year 2026. The main problem found was the incorrect and incomplete use of PPE by said personnel, despite the company providing them partially, which shows failures in the processes of monitoring, control, training, and self-care culture. The research adopted a quantitative approach with a descriptive scope. A diagnostic survey was conducted with the 20 loading and unloading workers using Google Forms, which was complemented by direct observation thru a checklist based on Resolution 0312 of 2019 and Decree 1072 of 2015. The results showed six main issues: incomplete supply of PPE, low voluntary use of lumbar belts (55% never use them), negative perception of PPE effectiveness in 50% of the workers, lack of knowledge about their correct use, absence of visual safety signage, and presence of active musculoskeletal symptoms, mainly lumbar pain in 95% of the staff. Taking into account the aforementioned findings, an intervention proposal was developed consisting of three components: a formal PPE management program based on the PDCA cycle, a training and awareness plan with a visual and participatory approach, and an educational video as a permanent awareness tool. This proposal aims to strengthen the safety culture and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.Item Propuesta de intervención orientada a la implementación del Programa de Gestión de Riesgos Laborales en la Empresa FRENOS ANDINO, BOGOTÁ- 2026. Intervention proposal aimed at the implementation of the Occupational Risk Management Program in the Company FRENOS ANDINO, BOGOTÁ- 2026Bejarano-Romero, Marian Julieth; Sánchez-Carrascal, Diana Patricia; Venegas-Urbina, Maribel; Bueno-Castro, Diana DerlyIn the absence of an occupational risk management programme at Frenos Andinos, an intervention proposal is being implemented with the aim of improving workers’ health and safety conditions to prevent both accidents and occupational illnesses. The lack of such a programme poses a significant risk to both employees and the organisation, reducing productivity and increasing the incidence of workplace accidents. One of the main objectives of this programme is to implement an intervention plan focused on establishing an occupational risk management system within the company, in conjunction with the GTC-45 matrix, to identify potential hazards and risks. Furthermore, the programme will be designed and presented in a booklet serving as an interactive resource for raising awareness and knowledge among workers. In this way, the programme strengthens occupational risk management at Frenos Andino, promotes prevention and the well-being of workers in line with current legislation, and contributes to improving working conditions and organisational growth, whilst minimising accident rates and occupational illnesses.Item Gestión de trabajo seguro, un análisis desde la salud mental en el sector de hidrocarburos / Management of Safe Work and Mental Health in the Hydrocarbons SectorOrtiz-Duran, Lesly; Cañas-Navarro, Carol; Rubio-Roa, Dayana; Bueno-Castro, Diana DerlyThis thesis studies safe work management in the hydrocarbon sector from a mental health perspective, based on a review of scientific literature. Its main objective is to demonstrate how psychosocial factors can affect workplace safety and the well-being of workers. The results indicate that, while some Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems have historically focused on preventing physical risks, there is a growing need to incorporate mental health as a fundamental component. Long working hours, rotating shifts, geographical isolation, work pressure, and leadership styles, among other factors, directly impact the development of disorders ranging from stress and depression to anxiety and insomnia. It was also identified that the main safe work strategies include implementing international standards (such as ISO 45001), preparing work areas, improving working conditions, and promoting overall well-being; actions that help reduce human error, workplace accidents, and absenteeism. It is concluded that safe work management must be understood globally, and that it is essential to integrate mental health within prevention systems to increase the safety culture, improve productivity and create safer work environments.Item Análisis de la carga física laboral y su relación con el dolor cervical en trabajadores administrativos-Analysis of physical workload and its relationship with neck pain in administrative workersGalindo-Figueroa, Diana; Bueno-Castro, DianaThis monograph analyzes the relationship between physical exertion and neck pain in office workers in a context characterized by increased sedentary work and intensive use of digital technologies. The main problem is the high incidence of neck pain in this occupational group, primarily related to prolonged periods of sitting, constant neck flexion, and few changes in posture during the workday. The overall objective was to analyze the available scientific evidence on neck pain and its relationship with exercise, posture, and cervical mobility factors.Item Evaluación integral de los puestos de trabajo y formulación de propuestas de mejora ergonómica, en una empresa de geotecniaOrtega-Tarazona, Jairo Enrique; Ariza-Bareño, Jenny Roxana; Bueno-Castro, Diana DerlyThis project develops the characterization of workstations in a company within the geotechnical sector, with the purpose of identifying, analyzing, and managing ergonomic risk factors that impact workers’ health and, consequently, their performance. The research is based on a quantitative approach with a descriptive scope, using standardized methodologies such as ROSA and REBA methods, supported by tools such as direct observation, photographic records, and employee interviews. The results reveal inadequate ergonomic conditions in both administrative areas and the laboratory, including the adoption of forced and sustained postures, repetitive movements, and deficiencies in the design of furniture and workstations, in addition to long working hours without adequate scheduling of active breaks to mitigate these effects. In response to this diagnosis, an ergonomic intervention proposal is presented, structured around three main axes: workstation redesign, implementation of control measures, and promotion of healthy practices, in accordance with the guidelines of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) and current regulations. Furthermore, considering the organizational context, the project gains particular relevance due to the upcoming relocation of the company, representing a strategic opportunity to integrate ergonomic criteria from the design phase of workstations, thereby contributing to the prevention of work-related injuries, improvement of organizational well-being, increased productivity, and operational sustainability.Item Factores de riesgo laboral en el transporte terrestre en América Latina y su abordaje desde la gestión de la seguridad y salud en el trabajo: revisión documental (2010–2025) - Occupational risk factors in land transport in Latin America and their approach from the management of occupational safety and health: a documentary review (2010–2025)Echeverry-Carvajal, Diego Fernando; Gutiérrez-Suarez, Adriana Stefany; Bueno-Castro, Diana DerlyLand transport is one of the sectors most exposed to occupational risks in Latin America and a strategic component of the regional economy. This monograph analyzes the main occupational risk factors in the sector and their management from the perspective of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) management models, through a systematic review of 24 scientific articles published between 2010 and 2025 in databases such as SciELO and Dialnet. The findings reveal a gap between the formal adoption of international standards such as ISO 45001 and their effective application, especially in small and medium-sized enterprises. Ergonomic, physical, psychosocial, and organizational risks were identified as interacting systemically, with fatigue resulting from prolonged workdays being one of the main factors associated with road accidents. The results are compared with international epidemiological evidence, including the WHO & ILO report (2021), and with approaches to the social determinants of health. It is concluded that the sustainability of the sector requires predictive management models that integrate the human dimension of risk and strengthen prevention from an organizational and strategic perspective.Item Propuesta de un manual de gestión de comportamientos seguros para los trabajadores de montajes de estructuras metálicas de la empresa celik construcciones metálicasDíaz-Granados, Paula Andrea Mantilla; Casallas-Riveros, Hasbleidy Andrea; Mejía-Arcila, Yulieth Marcella; Bueno-Castro, Diana DerlyThis study addresses occupational safety challenges at CELIK Construcciones Metálicas, a metalworking construction company where workers repeatedly engaged in risky behaviors—improper PPE use, failure to anchor at heights, overconfidence, and task improvisation—despite having documented procedures and a functioning SG-SST in place, suggesting the core problem was not the absence of rules but a lack of genuine ownership over them. A diagnostic instrument was applied to 76 operational workers (sample from 120; 95% confidence level, 7% margin of error), revealing critical knowledge gaps: only 68.4% correctly identified required PPE, 73.7% answered accurately on load-lifting procedures, and 76.3% knew the incident reporting protocol, while hot work (95%) and housekeeping (89.5%) showed stronger understanding. Based on these findings, a Safe Behavior Management Manual was developed, grounded in Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) principles and Meliá’s (2007) Triconditional Theory, incorporating participatory activities, attention-management exercises, and preventive infographics targeting the three identified risk factors. The proposal aims to shift safety from an externally imposed obligation to a genuine organizational value, addressing the human factor through positive reinforcement and active worker involvement.Item Análisis del comportamiento docente en la prevención de riesgos laborales en el entorno educativo - Analysis of teacher behavior in the prevention of occupational risks in the educational environmentValencia-Arce, Danne Melissa; Bueno-Castro, Diana DerlyThis investigation constitutesan analysis of the teacher as an active subject in the prevention of occupational risks in the school environment, knowing that they face a wide range of risks (physical, psychosocial, ergonomic, and vocal) that affect teñir health, well-being, and pedagogical work. The study is conducted from a qualitative and descriptive approach, through a review. According to three specific objectives, the results reveal that: (1) the most recurrent occupational risks in the educational field are stress, burnout, musculoskeletal disorders, voice problems, and precarious environmental conditions; (2) the preventive behavior of teachers is mainly unsatisfied or at risk, with a minority adopting compliant behaviors linked to institutional support, training, and workplace well-being; (3) among the most relevant prevention strategies were training, periodic inspections, and a package of actions of an ergonomic, environmental, and psychosocial nature (active breaks, vocal care, stress management, organizational adjustments). The results are discussed in light of the principles of the ILO and WHO, highlighting the gap between knowledge and preventive action, and the influence of structural factors (work overload, precariousness, lack of resources) on the implementation of safe practices. It is concluded that teaching behavior is not an individual trait but a response shaped by the organizational contexto and preventive culture.Item Diseño de un programa de gestión ambiental para el manejo de residuos en una empresa del sector de postres: caso Dulce Jesús MíoCenteno-Plata, Juan Ernesto; Taquez-Bueno, Luz Ayda ; Bueno-Castro, Diana DerlyThis project focuses on designing an environmental management program for the comprehensive management of solid waste at the Dulce Jesús Mío dessert company in Bogotá. The main objective is to strengthen regulatory compliance (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001), optimize environmental performance, and mitigate occupational risks such as falls and injuries caused by inadequate waste management. A census conducted at its five locations identified critical issues such as deficiencies in source separation, a lack of technical storage areas, and the absence of metrics or generation records. Furthermore, a lack of formal environmental policies and a management approach based on empirical practices were evident. The proposed intervention uses the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act) to structure a systemic solution. The key elements include the provision of recycling points in accordance with Resolution 2184 of 2019, the upgrading of storage units, staff training programs, and the implementation of a digital system of key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure traceability. In conclusion, this program will facilitate operational efficiency, reduce accidents, and ensure the organization's sustainability and legal compliance.Item Tendencias de los programas de actividad Física en los entornos laborales una mirada global de los ultimos cinco añosMartínez-Pérez, Jennyffer Grace; Castro-Bueno, Diana DerlyIn recent years, promoting health in the workplace has gained increasing importance due to the rise in sedentary behavior associated with contemporary work practices. In this context, workplace physical activity programs have become a key strategy for improving the overall well-being of employees and fostering healthier organizational environments. This monograph aimed to analyze global trends in physical activity programs implemented in workplaces during the period 2021-2026, with the purpose of identifying their main characteristics, approaches, and contributions to employee well-being. The study employed a descriptive, qualitative approach, based on a review and analysis of recent scientific literature related to promoting physical activity in the workplace. Through the analysis of various international studies, several strategies were identified to promote active lifestyles within organizations. These include active breaks, corporate wellness programs, digital interventions to promote physical activity, and the redesign of workspaces to facilitate movement during the workday. The results show that these initiatives contribute significantly to reducing sedentary behavior, strengthening the physical and mental well-being of workers, and improving the organizational climate.Item Síndrome de Burnout en médicos de Latinoamérica Una mirada de los últimos 10 añosAgamez-Fuentes, Jorge Elian; Arellano-Navarro, Luis Carlos; Bueno-Castro, Diana DerlyBurnout syndrome among Latin American physicians is a structural and growing occupational health problem, worsened by chronic work overload, precarious health systems, and the COVID-19 pandemic. This monograph describes its impact based on scientific production from the last ten years (2016-2026). A qualitative descriptive bibliographic review was conducted in SciELO, Redalyc, Dialnet, Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Elsevier databases. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 26 studies with specific data on physicians and residents were analyzed using a documentary review matrix., Results reveal high prevalence of the syndrome. The most frequent symptoms are chronic fatigue (92 % of articles), depression (81 %), and anxiety (77 %). The most affected specialties are emergency medicine, intensive care, general surgery, internal medicine, and medical residents. Brazil leads with 6 studies, followed by Peru and Argentina (3 each), Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador. Burnout is linked to extended shifts, limited institutional support, and high emotional exposure, resulting in medical errors, absenteeism, staff turnover, and professional migration. It is concluded that burnout is not an individual but a systemic phenomenon. Comprehensive prevention and occupational well-being strategies at institutional and public policy levels are urgently needed to protect physicians’ mental health and strengthen health system sustainability in Latin America
