Words of Memory, History, and Resistance: Women’s Voices in War from Colombia, Palestine, and the Soviet Union

| dc.description | This article presents a critical reflection grounded in contemporary literary studies with a gender – sensitive and differential approach, focusing on the lived experience of war as narrated by women in three written texts: The Unwomanly Face of War (2015) by Svetlana Alexievich, the poem "We teach Life, Sir" (2015) by Rafeef Ziadah, and the testimonial report When the Birds Did Not Sing (2022) by Colombia’s Truth Commission. The study includes a contextualization of the selected Works and engages in a comparative hermeneutic reading of selected fragments. It highlights common elements in how war is experienced and the role of both oral and written language in the construction of memory and resistance in the fate of violence. Finally, the article reflects on the role that literary theory and literary studies should play in the analysis, research, and critical studies of contemporary written texts. | en |
| dc.description | Este escrito propone una reflexión crítica, situada en los estudios literarios contemporáneos con enfoque diferencial y de género, sobre la experiencia de la guerra vivida por mujeres en tres textos escritos: La guerra no tiene rostro de mujer (2015) de Svetlana Aleksiévich, el poema "Nosotros enseñamos vida, señor" (2015) de Rafeef Ziadah, y el informe testimonial Cuando los pájaros no cantaban (2022) de la Comisión de la Verdad de Colombia. Se realiza una contextualización de estas obras y, a partir de un ejercicio de literatura comparada de fragmentos seleccionados, se indaga en los elementos comunes en la experiencia de la guerra, así como el papel de la palabra -oral y escrita- en la construcción de memoria y resistencia frente a la violencia. Finalmente, se plantean reflexiones sobre el lugar que tanto la teoría como los estudios literarios deben ocupar en el análisis, la investigación y la praxis crítica del estudio de los artefactos discursivos contemporáneos. | es |
