To carry out this, the main factors that characterized Colombia as the greatest possible threat to US security between the 1980s and 1990s are identified. In order to determine the impact of this scourge that affected both countries. The United States wishes to intervene significantly in the country and in the Andean region through the implementation of security mechanisms, international cooperation and commercial benefits. In this way, the investigation of the 4 main agreements Plan Colombia, ATPA, ATPDEA and FTA COL-EE was carried out. UU that helped to conceive a strategic work between Colombia and the United States in the fight against drug trafficking, strengthening the institutionality and development of the country. It was found that by virtue of these programs and / or agreements, the exportable supply of Colombia grew by more than 80% due to free access of products to the US market. It is concluded that thanks to the commercial benefits granted to Colombia by the North American government, relations between both countries improve and today the United States stands out as a natural commercial partner of the country.
