Muñoz Muñoz, Adriana Maria; Oliveros Mina, Danna Liseth; Garcia Castiblanco, Claudia Paola
Trade relations between Colombia and Ecuador have had both positive and negative development, taking into account that Ecuador is a dollarized country since 2000, the incidence of the exchange rate that exists between the two countries has played an important role in these relations , the variations in the value of the currency have been relevant during the last twenty three years 1995-2017, since during this lapse of time was recorder the imposition of safeguard measures from Ecuador to Colombia due to the devaluation of the Colombian peso, which generated the neighboring country a risk in its export capacity. The objective of this investigation is to analyze the commercial relations between the two countries and the incidence of the dollarization of the Ecuadorian economy in said relations, taking into account the process, background, advantages and disadvantages of the imposition of this currency in the neighboring country as legal currency. The present study is a descriptive research that relies mainly on information about the commercial exchange between the two countries and the movement in the exchange rate to answer the question posed. The main result is that the devaluation of the peso against the dollar can lead Ecuador to make decisions that affect trade between the two countries, for which Colombia must be prepared to assume the possible consequences.
