Comercio internacional e inversión extranjera directa como impulsores del sector agrícola colombiano
Castellanos-Sastoque, Karla Valentina; Jativa-Ariza, Ana Maria; Castañeda-Luque, Cristian Andres; Ospina-Martínez, Oswaldo
The central objective of the research is to describe how international trade and foreign direct investment drive one of the most important sectors of the economies of developing countries, such as the agricultural sector. To carry out this, a diagnosis of the sector was carried out, which allowed identifying that during the years 2013 to 2020 its participation in the gross domestic product remained at an average of 2.8%, demonstrating its resilience capacity despite the potential of the agricultural frontier. Subsequently, the flows of foreign direct investment that have reached the sector whose participation is low when compared to other non-mining and energy sectors are analyzed, despite the country having important competitive advantages, efforts are required if the desire is to diversify exports and attract a flow of capital to strengthen the sector and make it competitive. Finally, a series of non-traditional agricultural products are identified that may have the potential not only to attract investment, but also to increase export flows. The foregoing allows agriculture to be seen as a strategic sector for governments and for the fulfillment of the 2030 goals proposed in the Sustainable Development Goals and to take advantage of the sector's potential not only to increase exports of non-traditional products but also to generate value through agribusiness.
