Propuesta de intervención Riesgo químico en fumigadores del sector agrícola. El caso de una empresa de Santa Sofía (Boyacá)
Camila Salvaneschi Ragazzone; Diana Derly Bueno
A 2020 OIT study estimated that 27.4% of the global population works in the agricultural sector, which is considered one of the most hazardous industries. Illnesses and accidents resulting from the handling of agrochemicals in agriculture remain among the least addressed issues in rural areas. The workers with the highest exposure to chemical risks are those who mix and apply these products on crops to control pests and diseases. The analysis carried out made it possible to identify that the existing hazards can cause serious health consequences. When assessing the danger of each substance, risks such as infertility, cancer, allergies, and other effects related to inhalation, skin absorption, and cross-contamination were identified. During the document review and direct field observations, significant shortcomings were found, particularly in the proper use of personal protective equipment, the lack of training for handling agrochemicals, and the limited reading of safety data sheets. These documents provide essential information on each product’s risks and the protective measures required to prevent poisoning and other adverse health effects.
