Desarrollo de una plataforma web como herramienta de apoyo al aprendizaje del lenguaje de señas en jóvenes estudiantes.
Caicedo-Cortes, Juan Fernando; Villamarin-Wilches, Oscar Julián; Alonso-Villalba, Mauricio
SignHands is an educational web platform developed to support sign language learning, aimed primarily at young students and individuals interested in fostering inclusive communication with the Deaf community. The project arose in response to the communication barriers faced by people with hearing impairments in various social, educational, and public service settings. The platform was built using web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, alongside Supabase for authentication and data storage. Key features include user registration and login, interactive learning modules, displays of sign language vocabulary and the manual alphabet, practical assessment exercises, and a suggestion box for user feedback. The development process employed the XP (Extreme Programming) methodology, enabling continuous improvement through short development cycles and constant testing. Additionally, various UML models and diagrams were created—including use cases, class diagrams, component and activity diagrams, and a software architecture based on the C4 model. Testing demonstrated intuitive navigation, cross-device accessibility, and a positive user experience. SignHands aims to contribute to social inclusion by leveraging dynamic, accessible technological tools designed for learning sign language.
