The agricultural sector represents one of the main sources of economy for Colombia, it is the main driver of employment for rural areas and it has been possible to obtain agricultural inputs at a lower cost, generating a greater participation of markets for the export of Colombian agricultural products. It has implied acquiring more knowledge in agricultural production processes to be more competitive nationally and internationally. In addition, it has a focus on food and environmental sustainability, which creates a series of opportunities and challenges for agricultural products that can lead to further development in the sector; The main regions for an expansion of arable land are the Orinoquia and the Guajira, however, the department of Vichada presents a low level of competitiveness in the market, for this reason in the following investigation will be announced the problems facing this department in the agricultural sector such as the lack of strategic capacity, few environmental policies in the department of Vichada and little technological development and innovation, just as there is no adequate support for the development of physical infrastructure; In this way it will be possible to identify possible strategies that boost the competitiveness of the agricultural sector of the department of Vichada through tools such as agricultural fairs, projects and research, international negotiation fairs, conferences, training and didactic workshops.
