Item Desmaterialización del límite: Una estrategia espacial para fomentar la permanencia y la circulación a partir de variaciones tipológicas del patioBeltran Gallo Maria FernandaThis research identifies the ways in which the dematerialization of boundaries in architectural courtyards restructures the relationship between interior and exterior, and how this affects users’ dwell time and circulation. It examines typological analysis (cloistered, interspersed, distorted), comparative mapping of references, and empirical study using a matrix of indicators and trace mapping, based on a theoretical framework of liminality, courtyards, and diffuse boundaries. In general, the results demonstrate that as the porosity and openness of the boundary increase (when adjusted according to typology and program), the variety of routes increases and areas for lingering are favored. However, this effect is contingent, as each strategy yields different results depending on the courtyard’s topology and the nature of its use. These correlations give rise to specific design guidelines (frequency of voids, solid/void ratio) that serve as an operational matrix, highlighting the limiting factors to be taken into account. The conclusion is that, with typological and technical coherence, the dematerialization of the edge transforms the courtyard into an active depth that expands the scope of appropriation and transit.
